Alvin Plantinga on Irrationality of Evolution

Here is a fun lecture by Alvin Plantinga on the irrationality of naturalism and evolution. Listen or watch.

Dr. Plantinga argues that naturalism and evolution philosophically explain reproductive advantages, but there is nothing in them that allows for rationality and truth to be one of the goals of the evolutionary process. It is no more rational than in choosing a belief system based on wish fulfillment. Thus naturalism and evolution is irrational at its very foundation.

Writer's Block

I haven't written much in my blog of late. I've run out of steam. I can't think of something to write about. I wrote a bunch about Revelation this last year, I don't have more to say about that -- and others say it much better than me. I wrote the short stories that were bouncing in my head. I like to write stories with twists and a philosophical and/or religious edge to them. I'm having too much fun at work -- and extremely busy, picking up new (to me) technology. I keep reading Scientific American and I haven't seen any very speculative articles that leap out at me. There are plenty of speculations, but none that I want to spend the time writing about at the moment.

I did find another source of free mp3 files. I'll list that soon. More people come by via Google search on CERN and 2012. I've followed some of the searches and there are some hilarious websites with really absurd conspiracy theories on the end of the world, time travel, etc. with the particle accelerator in CERN. I think I'll write on some of the funniest/absurd/weirdest sites I see.

If anyone has suggestions on topics, feel free to comment.

Issues Etc -- More Information on Cancellation

Michael Horton of the White Horse Inn interviews the author of the Wall Street Journal article in this MP3 interview about the cancellation of the Issues Etc radio/podcast. This is a very interesting interview.

I'm on the outside of all this, looking into this from afar. Issues Etc was an amazing Internet podcast, unlike anything else on the Internet. My prayer is that this program will return.

Weeden's Blog has more information about Issues Etc.

Time Travel All Over Again

For those who like SciFi stuff like time travel, Michio Kaku, a professor at the City University of New York, claims that time travel will be possible, so says a FOXNews article. Other related articles about professor Kaku and his book include The Telegraph (UK), which gives a more detailed discussion of time travel.

Personally, I don't think time travel is possible within the natural laws of the universe -- even though I wrote some short stories on the topic. I think the universe is logically consistent and time travel would violate that principle of logical consistency.

Issues Etc -- GONE!

One of my favorite radio programs, syndicated and put onto the Internet, Issues Etc, was terminated. The Wall Street Journal writes about it in the article Radio Silence.

Issues Etc was a radio program produced by the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod (LCMS). It reflected the conservative confessional side of the LCMS. Apparently there is a struggle within the LCMS on the direction it is taking, which the Wall Street Journal article writes about. It could be Issues Etc termination was the result of a skirmish within the LCMS.

I am a stalwart theologically conservative Presbyterian. While there were theological stances taken by Issues Etc that I disagreed with, because there are differences between classical confessional Lutherans (holding the to Lutheran confessions) and classical confessional Presbyterians (holding to the Presbyterian confessions), there is a lot that I did agree with and admired about the program. It is my prayer that the program will return to the Internet. The closest thing like it is the White Horse Inn.

The archives of Issues Etc has been restored, but it is uncertain how long those archives will remain.

CERN Atomsmasher Could Destroy World

Read about the lawsuit here. The person suing claims to have a physics background (but on closer inspection, this is doubtful). The plaintiff has a website. Those wascally Europeans!

Now this should be an April Fools idea. Unfortunately, the crazy guy is serious.
